I'm a writer, a communicator, an athlete, and a Hoya for life.
Beginnings
Originally from Baltimore, MD, I'm a proud graduate of the Bryn Mawr School. Everything I know about writing, I learned at Bryn Mawr. In 2005, I left "the city that reads" for our nation's capital, Washington, DC, where I spent four years as a student-athlete at Georgetown University. I studied linguistics and psychology, played Division 1 field hockey, and developed a curiosity for the larger world (thanks in large part to my world-traveling brother).
Career
I began my career as an intern. It wasn't glamorous (or lucrative), but it was 2009—an unlucky year to graduate college and begin the job search. But it turned out to be the best. I accepted an internship at Counterpart International, an international nonprofit focused on building the capacity of local partners in developing countries. That internship launched my career in international development.
At Counterpart, I was given the chance to see the world, traveling to places like Guatemala, Senegal, and Ethiopia. I met women and men whose lives were better because of Counterpart's work. It was inspiring, exhausting, frustrating, and eye-opening. I continued my work in this field, transitioning to Creative Associates International, where within two months, I flew halfway across the world to Kabul, Afghanistan for a 10-day trip chronicling a country-wide workforce development project (see more from that trip here).
A move out of the mid-Atlantic landed me a position at Pathfinder International in 2014. Based in Boston, MA, Pathfinder champions sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide. It serves the 214 million women around the world who want, but lack access to contraception. As part of the global engagement team, I wrote online content, led and managed fundraising and visibility campaigns, traveled as a field reporter, and managed the organization's social media strategy. I led a year-long website redesign process that culminated in the launch of a new site in October 2016, as well as the build of Pathfinder’s first-ever digital asset management system using Bynder—it houses the organization’s 70,000+ digital assets like photographs, video files, graphics, and logos.
In 2019, I wanted a new challenge, so I joined Life Biosciences, a preclinical biotech startup in Boston, MA focused on aging research. There, I led the company’s corporate communications efforts, managed investor relations, and for over a year, oversaw the corporate IT function.
In March 2022, my partner, Foster, and I decided to buy an RV and spend six months exploring the continent and all it has to offer! I continued to consult for Life Biosciences as we logged 30,000 miles in the RV and spent our days rock climbing, cycling, and seeing new places - which ended up taking 10 months instead of six!
Upon our return home, I accepted a new job in the communications field, and we relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
Fun
Whether it's a walk through the neighborhood or a run along the Charles River, I love being active and outside. When in Boston, I played field hockey through the Minuteman Field Hockey Club—and served as club president. Now in Louisiana, I’m retiring my field hockey stick and finding new outdoor hobbies (when it’s not 100+ degrees).
I still stay very connected to Georgetown—serving as co-president of the field hockey alumnae group called the Circle Club, communications co-chair for the Class of 2009, and a member of the Alumni Admissions Program where I interview first-year and transfer applicants for the Admissions Office.
